Know the material before accepting a delivery.
Photos and descriptions help with matching, but the receiver and supplier must still confirm the actual material and its suitability.
Natural clay / yellow clay
Common excavated subsoil. It may be wet, sticky, lumpy or variable and is not finished topsoil.
Clean excavated soil
Soil from excavation that should be free from rubbish and prohibited contamination. Confirm every source.
Unscreened topsoil / black soil
May contain roots, stones and clods. It is not equivalent to screened garden topsoil.
Screened topsoil
A processed product normally sourced from a landscape supplier rather than assumed from excavation.
Natural rock
Rock content, dimensions and handling requirements must be agreed before delivery.
Approved gravel
Only accept when the supplied product and intended use have been clearly confirmed.
